Technical Communication, 2/C/E
- ERRATA AND NOTES

For Technical Communication, Second Canadian Edition, by Don Klepp and John Lannon

  • Errata:

    p. 74 - the letter should be signed

    p. 151 - (last two lines) delete the phrasing, "such as in the following examples of a citation of a source whose author is known and of a source whose author is not known, but which has a known sponsor".

    p. 307 - Figure 13.8 - under "Major Topic Heading", 3rd line - in the sentence, "Start the text one line space below the heading", replace the phrase "one line space" with the word "immediately".

    p. 395 - in the "request For Proposal" - line 3 within the box - "Request for Proposal" should be centered, not off-centre to the right

    p. 405 - top of the page - the first sentence should read, "In addition to the standard seven sections found in informal proposals, longer formal proposals should include the sections shown in Table 18.3, page 404.

    p. 445 - the page number for page 2 of the sample report should be centered at the bottom of the page, (as on page 1 of the sample report), not placed at the upper right-hand margin.

    p. 451 - the page number for page 8 of the sample report should be centered near the bottom of the page, just above "REFERENCES."

Figure 19.6, pp. 459-474 - the following pages should centre the sample report's page numbers at the bottom of the page, (as on page 1 of the sample report), not placed at the upper right- hand margin.

Note: the last three lines of material on sample report page 3 will have to move to the top of sample report page 4 (text page 466), just above section 2.1.2, to provide room for the proper page placement of sample report page 3.

    p. 507 - line 2 of the paragraph following the heading, "PERIODIC ACTIVITY REPORTS" - replace "that" with "which."

    p. 509 - paragraph 3, line 1 - "furnace" is misspelled as "furance"

    p. 550 - the "To" line's quoted e-mail address should be "custserv@pure.com", not "custser@pure.com"

    p. 605 - under the heading, "CAREFULLY PREPARE YOUR INTRODUCTION AND CONCLUSION" - add "you will" to the sentence, "In the process, establish the mood of your presentation", so that the sentence reads, "In the process, you will establish the mood of your presentation."

    p. 616 - the five lines of text immediately following Figure 24.4 should appear at the very top of page 616, before the paragraph that begins, "Notice that the agenda in Figure 24.4…"

  • Notes:

    p. 34 - refers to an on-line version of the Audience/Purpose Profile, which can be obtained as a Word document by e-mailing donklepp@junction.net

    p. xvi (and several subsequent pages) - in keeping with Pearson Ed editorial policy, "website" is not capitalized and is spelled as one word. The theory is that "website" is a new generic word. Don Klepp prefers the spelling of "Web site", and will use this spelling in his correspondence.

    p. 267, p. 270, p. 276, p. 281, and p. 282 - the labels for Figures 12.9, 12.10, 12.14, 12.15, 12.23, 12.24, 12.35, and 12.36 have been placed to the side of the illustration, not below the illustration. This side placement is incorrect, but correcting the error at this juncture would cause many problems in Chapter 12's page layout, so the second edition will have to live with this inconsistency.
