Solving the Online or Print Crosswords

The crossword puzzle can be tackled in two ways. You can solve it interactively online (on your computer), or you can print it out and work on it in the traditional way.

To solve the puzzle online:

• Click on a square to highlight the spaces for the answer and show the corresponding clue.
  
  
• Click on a clue to highlight where to input the answer in the grid.
  
  
• To enter an answer in the highlighted spaces just type it on your keyboard. The blue square indicates where the first character will appear.
  
  
• Click twice (double-click) to change from typing in the "across" position to typing in the "down" position, or drag the mouse pointer in the desired direction in the crossword grid.
  
  
• Click on the scrollbar at the right of the clues to scroll up and down the list of clues.
  
  
• Click on the buttons at the bottom as required.
  
  
• The REVEAL button will enter the correct letter for the highlighted square.
  
  
• The CHECK button will remove only incorrect letters in a highlighted clue.
  
  
• The REVERT button will delete all answers -- typically used to allow someone else to tackle the puzzle from scratch.
  
  
• The SOLUTION button will fill in all the correct words in the crossword grid.
  
  
• Once you have solved the complete crossword correctly a message of congratulations will display.
  

NOTE: The bracket that follows a clue provides information about the number of words and the size of each word, that has to fill the empty squares selected. If a bracket displays as (6) this means that there is only one word to be filled in, and this word is to have 6 letters. If the bracket displays as (5,9) this means that you are looking for two words to fill the selected empty squares, and the first word is to have 5 letters and the second word is to have 9 letters. When there are two or more words to be filled in, the spaces or hyphens that would normally be displayed between the words is omitted in the crossword grid.

To solve the crossword in print:

Click on the "Printable Puzzle" link located below the buttons for the online crossword. The web page that displays should be printed using the Print, File options from your browser's menu bar. Two pages will print out. The first page will display the crossword grid. The second page will display the all the clues that accompany the crossword grid. To check to see if you filled in the crossword correctly, you can print out the filled in solution crossword by returning to the online crossword page and clicking on the "Printable Solution" link located below the buttons for the online crossword.The solution crossword web page that displays can then be printed using the Print, File options from your browser's menu bar.
